The expression “there is nothing like the good old days” commonly means that there was less violence, or less sexism, or less racism, or less TV commercials. Actually, there was less of everything in the good ‘ole days. While this may be true, it also meant that people were better off in the good ‘ole days. For example, it used to be that if you had a disease, you died from it.

Now we have vaccines that keep us healthy and we have medicine that can cure nearly everything. Furthermore, we have more and better food than we used to and we live longer than we used to.
